Did you ever think of the consequences of one’s decision that can have on an individual? I am sure you are thinking of your life and the decisions you have made. Depending on the day to day affairs you too would have made some significant and some insignificant choices and life fulfilling decisions. I am not writing about Decisions neither about choices. But I am speaking about the implications for life because of the choices and decisions we make.
Is it not strange that we always take the best choice and make the vital decision for our and our dear one’s lives? Why then does it hurt, why then does a situation go wrong? STRANGE!!!
Questions are easy to answer when we sit in our homes without any responsibility. Turn around this situation and be in the shoes of a prisoner the question now becomes daunting?
Silva was a farmer desiring to live a happy life with his wife, son and daughter, he never dreamt beyond the wellness of his family. He never thought he would be in prison for his choices and decision. I’ll spare you his life story, but not the story of his wife, son and daughter.
No more does she have the security of her husband or her house and neither a dream for her son and daughter. Her life has been traumatized by the daily broadcast from the people in the village. She has to work at homes and for all the work she can do she receives with her wages a fair amount of resentment. After all isn’t she the wife of a criminal? Relatives have kept their distance as if she and her children are a cancer to society. Rejected is stamped on their forehead. Now she can only think of existing each day. Were it not for the children she had already contemplated death? But in such situations even death eludes you so you have to face each day with its grim reality.
Their son and daughter who could go to school today sit at home or accompany the mother to work after all what will they do in school? Isn’t the boy branded as a future criminal? His once close friends now constantly cursing him and avoiding his presence and what hope await the girl? She has just become the asset for the men in our society. When a girl does not have a father who can protect, the society takes the liberty of owning her for all the wrong reasons.
Silva could never think of a life for his wife and children this way. But today as many as lakh families are living in such a condition, for Silva received his punishment but the major part of his punishment was served by his wife and children. Even today they struggle for their daily food and Strange as it is the son has become a criminal and the daughter is in the brothel.
Strange, whom do you hold responsible for the situation of the wife and the children? The husband who had dreamt of a bright future or the society who did not do the crime?
Let me suggest an old age remedy from the point of society, “Do unto others what you expect them to do to you”
